Comparison of figures (Benchmarking)Classification numbers are helpful in terms of orientation and control for the responsible people in the municipality.
The particular function of numbers is that they can concentrate a relevant issue and express it convincingly. Therefore, a number is a compact, simplified rendering of reality.
Municipalities and their institution gain chances of quality increase and thrift profit when dealing with classification numbers.
Analysis of municipally internally classification numbers
The service provision of the last 4 years in a municipality is considered (historical data). Therefore, classification numbers, which describe the ranges of efficiency, have to be definded and compiled. The development of the interesting areas will get comprehensible with the calculated numbers. Measures of improvement have to be considered if there is a negative development in some areas.

Intercommunal comparison of numbers
The benefit of the comparison of municipalities is that they can learn from each other.
That creates a good basis for positve competition. Municipalities compare their areas by defining and collecting classification numbers. Although there are also electronic possiblities today, the workshop and exchange is essential. The comparing work requires not only the exchange of numbers but also the practice behind them. This comparison is based on strict confidentiality between the partners.
